Comment / Although departing here for Malaga with holidaymakers on board, only a few hours previous, G-CELZ was in the air hauling up to 17 tonnes of post for Royal Mail between Newcastle and Stansted.

Newcastle Woolsington Airport (NCL)
Comment / On approach for runway 07 at Newcastle, arriving from Arrecife, Lanzarote. Note the rippling of the fuselage skin just aft of the wing box, a quite normal phenomenon on high-time Boeing aircraft.

Newcastle Woolsington Airport (NCL)
Comment / This Boeing 757 was originally delivered on April 13th 1989 to Air Europe, as G-BRJD. After then flying for a handful of other operators, she joined the Jet2 ranks in 2006, wearing this white livery.

Newcastle Woolsington Airport (NCL)
Comment / It's 0728 and G-CELX rolls on to runway 25 for her first flight of the day. No, not quite! Each night, the two based Jet2 Boeing 737 Quick Change aircraft are employed on mail flights from Newcastle to London Stansted and East Midlands, departing late in the evening and arriving back in the early hours.

Comment / You don't see many of the Jet2 Boeing 737s with the original silver tails around any more. Not that you can make this one out anyway - G-CELY basks in the bright sunlight on final for runway 25.

Comment / Another Jet2 Boeing 757 roars away from Newcastle's runway 25, this time destination Arrecife, Lanzarote. G-LSAA was first delivered in the summer of 1987 as G-BNSF to Air Europe.

Comment / Jet2 have really ramped up their Newcastle base during 2007, with two 737s and two 757s stationed during the summer season. Boeing 737-377 G-CELX has been around of late, and is seen here arriving in bright sunshine on one of the airline's thrice daily rotations from London Gatwick.

Comment / After some four years on lease to Flyglobespan, G-CELR returned to service with Jet2 during the spring earlier this year. She was originally delivered to Channel Express in 2001, but was assigned to Flyglobespan in the spring of 2003 as one of the new carrier's launch aircraft. It seems Jet2 are yet to find time for her to visit the paint shop - she's still flying in a basic Flyglobespan scheme with Jet2 titles.

Comment / It's not often you see two aircraft on the runway at the same time, though every evening Jet2's pair of Newcastle-based Boeing 737-300QCs are towed from the passenger terminal across the runway to the new south-side stands, where they are loaded with mail for flights to London Stansted and East Midlands. G-CELZ is seen here following G-CELA with some local livestock in the foreground.
